Hey Bulldogs, hope whoever sees this is doing well. It's still a few months away but I'm getting excited about the reunion. I'm hoping we have a good turn out. At this stage of the game, I think if we are still mobile, we should do our best to be there. Who knows what the next 5 years will bring. I've had many challenges over the last few years but I'm still here & plan to hang around and haunt everyone for a few more years.
Sending ya'll much love & lots of hugs.
See you in September,
Lita Goldstein-Poehlman

Yesterday I received a telephone call from the caregiver of Patty Collins. She said they had found her lying on the floor of her bedroom in the morning. Apparently she had died of a heart attack. She didn't have any funeral information when she called. I don't recall Patty's maiden name but I am sure one of you will know it. Patty had joined us for a get-together at my house during the summer and that is why the caregiver called me. I will let you know if I hear anything else. I'm sorry to hear of this sad news.

Hi Bulldogs...just dropped in to wish everyone a healthy and happy 2018.

My spouse of 56 years (Elaine, HS grad from N Miami High) and I are still doing great. Spent part of last year hiking in the NW US and western Canada and, when we are not off traveling somewhere, then we are flying radio controlled model planes and visiting with friends and neighbors.

My brother Bob (SBHS class of 59) visited from Arizona this past summer and we had lots of fun reminiscing about our days living in Hollywood Beach. Our family home, built in 1939 at the corner of Fillmore and Hollywood Beach Blvd, was torn down several years ago and is now a multi-level condo, parking bldg. It did not, however, diminish our memories of the fun we had while living there. Seems we were always in the process of building flat-bottom boats, patching canoes or rebuilding Cushman scooters in the back yard. Neither of us could recall the exact name of the circular airport out in western Hollywood, but we remember all the fun we had while skydiving there during the weekends when our building, repairing activities (or homework) was not enough to keep us occupied.

Okay...so life is great at this end and we hope that for you and your loved ones you find joy and happiness in 2018 and many more years to come.

To Richard Clarkson, I also have fond memories of Mrs. Watkins. I enjoyed her classes as well. It is hard to get all of the names straight after all these years, but the memories remain.
Alas, the Hollywood we grew up in no longer remains. So many changes have occurred that it is sometimes difficult to find the old landmarks. The one important lesson we must learn is "All things change" (except us, of course).

Dear classmates : I was going through a couple of old boxes of letters , photos and scrapbooks . I found a newspaper article from the Miami Herald ( April 16 , 1964 ) stating that one of my favorite teachers , Mrs. Pauline Watkins , had been named " Teacher of the year " by the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs . I delivered the newspaper during my high school years on my trusty old BSA 125 motorcycle . Carrying the Sunday edition across the Hollywood beach bridge required me to run alongside the cycle with it reved up to top speed so I could get my papers up and across the hump at the top of the bridge . The outcome was always in doubt .
Mrs . Watkins taught us history and embellished each lesson with tales of her travels through Europe and elsewhere . She was the head of South Broward's Social Studies Department and retired in 1964 after 35 years of teaching . One summer < I received a postcard from her with a picture of a German castle on it . I remember saving the card with its German stamp . I loved her intellect. She told me she read an average of five books a week . The memory of her that still sticks in my mind occurred in the classroom . All the lights were out and we were watching a film about some point in history . All of a sudden , there was a blood-curdling scream which had the whole classroom in an uproar . After the lights were turned on , Mrs . Watkins explained to us that she had a bad back and had just experienced a very sharp pain . I always thought that she had a theatrical streak that was a strong part of her personality . Anyway , I hope you enjoyed reading my reminiscences .
